Coro & Corocraft

Coro produced multitudes of very collectible costume jewelry over the years, having been in business from 1901 to 1979.

Emanuel Cohn and Gerald Rosenberg were the founders of Coro (the first two letters of each partner’s last name) in New York.  Many designers worked for Coro over the years, producing exceptionally beautiful pieces of costume jewelry.  Alfred Katz, who has been mistakenly credited with the actual designs, was the person responsible for choosing Coro’s designs and signed for their patents.

Coro Craft (Corocraft) began to be used on Coro’s higher quality jewelry in 1937 until around 1953 when Vendome seems to have been used in its place.

Coro is also famous for their patented Duette, in which a pin back frame holds two separate dress clips as one pin.  When the dress clips are removed from the frame, they may be worn individually.  Duettes are quite collectible and desirable to vintage costume jewelry collectors.

Due to the volume of costume jewelry made by Coro and its subsidiaries, there are many, many different marks that can be found on vintage signed Coro jewelry.  An excellent reference for Coro marks can be found at http://www.illusionjewels.com/costumejewelrymarkscoro.html
