The fabric is strong and supple and could be worn gently. There is no fastener at the waist closure and someone has added a strip of modern black fabric as an extension, which would be easily removed. There are a couple of tears here and there that are an inch or less. They look like they may be a result of removing stitches in a few places.

There is evidence of stitching about 17” from the hemline where something was removed, and one of the tears is along this stitch line. A tuck has been added in the back to even the hemline, which could be let out to accommodate a bustle or add a slight train.

The lower 9” of the skirt is quite pretty. There are two tucks and below that, to complete the hemline, are two tucked ruffles that give the appearance of double ruffles. The upper ruffle is set in a wavy pattern. Very feminine!
