The bodice fastens at the V with a snap. It wraps to the side waist and closes with hooks and eyes. Our mannequin is too small for the dress, but it appears that the wrap goes to
the center back. There is a slight train, and again the lace is in exceptionally fine condition.
The lace is attached to the bodice at the shoulder seam rather roughly but no needle marks are apparent to evidence that this is anything other than original. The lace has been attached to the left silk bodice front at an angle. It is unclear whether this is original or a later repair. The wrap of the bodice front exactly follows the same line, so it may well be original. From this point on around the left side, the lace drapes rather strangely, leading me to believe that some type of repair has been made. The bodice lace is not attached at the bottom, under the wrapped area. The silk skirt is attached to the silk bodice in pleats.
What is so amazing is that the condition of the lace is so wonderful. The hem edge is a tiny bit frayed, but not torn. I have not found any large holes in the lace or the underdress. There are two holes about the size of a dime in the lace in the front of the skirt and a couple of catches in the lace on the back bodice which are very difficult to see since it is black on black.
Measurements, even approximate, have been very difficult due to the style of the gown. They are given for study purposes, though the dress is probably sturdy enough to be worn.
