Striking Salmon or Coral Silk Flapper Cloche Hat w/Hat Pin
Striking Salmon or Coral Silk Flapper Cloche Hat w/Hat Pin-Flapper hat, cloche, Roaring Twenties, 1923, Art Deco,
#50498 Striking Salmon or Coral Silk Flapper Cloche Hat w/Hat Pin

In an eye-catching bright salmon or coral colored silk, this cloche dates to the Roaring Twenties.  This style was introduced in about 1923 and this marvelous Flapper hat has all the style elements, including an Art Deco hammered gold tone metal hat pin!

Constructed of taffeta with a patterned band of a heavier weight fabric that seems to have a slight shimmer in some of the threads – possible metallic threads? – over a buckram type material.  It is decorated with two squares of salmon taffeta set corner-to-corner and edged with a bias band of the contrasting fabric.  To accent the corner-to-corner squares a gold tone metal hat pin, that might be original to the hat, has been placed across.  The lining has “The Beatrice Hat” by D.B. Fisk & Co. of Chicago label.

There are some condition issues which are reflected in the price.  While the hat form is very sturdy, the silk has begun to shred both in the lining and on the outside with a large split across the entire top of the crown.  Most areas where the fabric is folded is split.  This is definitely not a wearable hat, but quite striking as a display and actually would make a nice “go with” our Item #50772 –  Coral Moire Flapper Era Dress; the colors are the same hues but the dress is slightly lighter.
