As a lover of all things tropical, I’m particularly drawn to these fascinating pieces of jewelry made from wings of the Morpho butterfly.  Butterfly wing jewelry has been made since the Victorian times, but most pieces found today are from the 1920s or 1930s through the 1950s.  The iridescent wing provides the colorful background and the scene is reverse painted on the back of the glass.

This lovely oval butterfly wing pin, or brooch, is set in a pot metal.  The scene depicts palm trees, sea birds, and an island.  There are brownish-red hues in the background, giving the appearance of a sunset.

Measures 1 ½” wide and 1” high.  Unsigned.  Safety clasp in good working order.
